Titan Missile Rescue Training

Missile Silo Photography
What a fabulous location photography shoot!! Not only was being inside a missile silo incredibly interesting, but these rescue trainers do amazing work training a range of professionals in the most frightening environments.  On top of it these guys experience life not only noble and heroic, but few of us get to observe.  It was a privilege to spend the day with them.

Dangling from a rope doesn’t seem to faze these guys.  They are more fascinated with the metals and alloys used in their safety gear and tripods!  Our photographer, while standing on a side rail, did ask if someone might hang on to him by his belt as he shot aiming 100+ feet down!  Much laughter and great time!

Executive Portrait

This lifestyle portrait session began with a rather grey room, but after a bit of dressing up, drive in a vehicle and add lighting-bingo; the stage was set.  Props add to a portrait-mining maps, or in the case of our next geologist a smile and a pick hammer!  These guys were a lot of fun. It’s always a pleasure to work with people who love their work.

We brought in 3 Arri Lights, 1-750 watt and 2-650 watt for stunning atmosphere.
Everything was shot on a tripod using a Canon 24-70mm mark 2 lens and Canon 5D Mark 3.  The staff photos turned out wonderfully!

Onsite Staff Photography

Business photographers shoot a wide variety during an onsite session. This day shoot included executive portraits and headshots in the morning session. By afternoon we were taking group staff portraits, lifestyle shots for marketing and executives in their offices for more relaxed shots. For front lighting we bounced two Paul Buff Einstein studio flashes and shot with a Canon 24-70mm 2.8 lens.  The existing backlight gave a soft polish.

Bride at Grand Piano in Rancho Cucamonga

This is the final wedding couple portrait in the series of three (see below). The bride wanted a beautiful shot at the piano and we decided to embellish with a story.

Shot 1 – Lonely Bride, with little light.

Shot 2 – Enter the Groom, the light of her life.

Shot 3 – Both engulfed in light – on the brink of the kiss.

This was shot at night.  Outside the window we set up an Arri 750 open face. The choice of tungsten light created the desired sunset effect through the wooden blinds.

Receptionist Lifestyle Portrait
A lifestyle (aka environmental) portrait session for the company receptionist required lighting setup. Staging the background with existing furnishings we added a couple of lights to create drama and depth to the shot. We combined ambient light with flash focusing a beauty dish on the subject’s face.

The photo session for this Law Office offered a rich background of beautiful wood desks, book cases and wide windows-ideal for an environment portrait session. This was the first shot-perfect pose, perfect attitude, perfect lighting.

Environment Staff Portrait

Environment Staff Portrait

Staff portraits have many settings now. “Lifestyle” aka “environment” portraits are popular because they are rapidly replacing stock photos for companies-real people in real business settings. These are the people who handle your phone calls.  Website visitors can put a face to a voice!

This was shot to enhance the background ambiance creating a bright, fresh image by slowing the shutter speed, requiring the subject to hold still and “hold that smile”. She was delightful to work with and the session went smoothly and quickly.

Shooting from inside an airplane hangar to capture the Arizona desert behind our subjects  with the blazing sun we used a 2 stop ND filter to bring down the sunlight.  Without this you see only silhouettes of the subjects. The pristine hangar floor yielded a lovely reflection! Great family portraits, both the couple and family (below).

Book Author Portrait

Book Author Portrait

It’s worth waiting for! We knew this portrait would be ideal for our children’s book author.  With everything set up, we waited…for the sunlight. The breath taking explosion of light bathing our subject was exciting. While leaning on a white piano the elements of the room worked together to give us this lovely portrait.

We used a Paul C Buff Einstein flash with a 10% grid.

To serve multiple needs this also holds up in an intimate close up head-shot.Author Head-shot Portrait.
