Titan Missile Rescue Training

What a fabulous location photography shoot!! Not only was being inside a missile silo incredibly interesting, but these rescue trainers do amazing work training a range of professionals in the most frightening environments. On top of it these guys experience life not only noble and heroic, but few of us get to observe. It was a privilege to spend the day with them.

Dangling from a rope doesn’t seem to faze these guys. They are more fascinated with the metals and alloys used in their safety gear and tripods! Our photographer, while standing on a side rail, did ask if someone might hang on to him by his belt as he shot aiming 100+ feet down! Much laughter and great time!

Medical Lab Equipment Photograhy

Mobile medical lab modules are fabricated to maximize space with sophisticated specialized testing equipment and necessary counter space. This session used existing light. Details were important and close ups in a tight space yet give the prospective buyer a more accurate image of the space. Wide angle lenses distort erroneously depicting interiors larger than actual feel.

Commercial Real Estate Photography

For realtors selling commercial property eye-catching photos are essential.

But commercial buyers want to see beyond the building: the neighboring businesses and their adjacent signage and properties; views from long angles, across interactions; what is the traffic visibility of the property; any unsightly obstructions which distract from the property.

And of course strategic 360 angles.

Mine Tunnel Photography

When you can’t see your hand in front of your face and no power outlet what are your best lighting options in a tunnel? It turns out Kubota builds a nice little diesel 4X4 cave crawler with powerful headlamps and a spotlight on top to handle all the photography lighting needs. This mine has been inactive for a time and was being inspected. It was a great photo shoot as long as you’re properly attired with heavy boots and safety gear. After 45 minutes of safety lecture we were ready to enter. Our first underground industrial photo shoot.

All the shots had to be staged due to the lack of professional lighting which meant the subjects had to hold still. The shutter speed was as low as 1/13 second and an ISO of 800 for most of the shots. We used a tripod for all shots. All shots are straight out of the camera. It was a great shoot!

Solar Panel Photography

Solar Panel at School Photography

An interesting photo shoot of installed solar panels at a local school. This was all about angles. There are 2 parts to this solar system, with the gigantic battery stored securely behind fencing.

When hired to take one photo the task is to capture every angle in a beautifully balanced image. To get the one shot our client needed we shot for an hour and from every angle. That’s the goal – seek out every good shot, shoot it all and let the client choose “the one”. As with all architecture there is a beauty to the structure, lines converging, verticals and horizontal. It’s a fun shoot using only the basics: the camera and your eye.

Rooftop Photography

Warehouse Rooftop Photograhy

Nothing like being alone on a rooftop shoot, especially when the client is asking for a few creative shots.

Los Angeles Rooftop Skyline

The client hoped to have the Los Angeles skyline as a background to the rooftop system they had installed on this industrial building. In these two shots the skyline seems close, despite how far away it was. The 70-200 mm Canon lens is a long lens which compresses the background-bringing it closer in the images.

Industrial Sub-Zero Photography

Talk about cold!

Industrial Sub Zero Freezer Photography

This industrial photo shoot had special needs. Part of which was the temperature of -4 degrees. It took a team of 3 to make this shot work and time was the driving factor, as Southern Californians, we aren’t acclimated for cold. The outside temperature was over 80 degrees.

After an all day shoot this was the last shot due to the temperature, noting the extreme temperature change would be asking a lot of the camera. The lift operator suspended the photographer upwards with the client sprinting through the aisles to trigger the motion sensor-ed facility lights. This gave a window of 30 seconds to grab the shot before the lights shut off. The temperature was taxing to our breathing and stress on the camera equipment. It took 8 hours for the camera body and lens temperature to return to room temperature, no damage to the camera or lens. We were in and out in about 5 minutes, taking 3 shots.

Using a Canon 6d with a 14 mm 2.8 Canon lens.

Industrial Warehouse Freezer

This freezer operates between 35-50 degrees for refrigerated foods. We shot in here before the subzero freezer and it was breeze.
