Large Product Photography

There is a big product and there is a BIG product!  Airplanes have beautiful design lines and beautiful paint jobs. They sparkle in the sunlight.  Photographing large products means working in a large area, more importantly having staff to maneuver the airplane into the desired position of the photographer.  Having a beautiful sunny day with cloudy blue skies makes the session wonderful!

To shoot the interior cockpit we covered the windshield with a tarp, squeezed into a tight cockpit and closed the doors to keep out the ambient light using only the glow of the instrument light panels.  Using a tri-pod and the slowest shutter speed of the Canon 5d Mark III returned a beautiful shot.

Flat Lay Product

For flat lay product photography an overhead camera rigging system with an HD monitor gives the Macro lens the flat, level shooting plane for tack sharp focus.  We lit using 2 soft boxes and a quarter stop 48 inch scrim with a 3rd flash behind.

Sequined Bikini Product Photorgapher

The sequins took a bit of light modifying, to maintain the jewel tones without blowing them out. We used foam core to create a box to channel the light.

Flat lay product photography requires one essential tool for setup: pins.  Lots of pins, lots of foam-core layers and additional time.  Spandex can be a bit of a wrestle due to the elasticity, but pinning does the trick.

Commercial Composite Photography in Anaheim

Composite Tour Bus
Often getting your product into the ideal setting isn’t realistic.  This tour bus company travels not only throughout Western states, but across the country.  Scheduling photo ops presents a lot of obstacles.  Opting for composite photo editing allowed time to photograph the bus to match the chosen stock images.  Adding reflections to the windows and hubcaps keeps it real. We created several composites. We also create composite portraits.

Bride at Grand Piano in Rancho Cucamonga

This is the final wedding couple portrait in the series of three (see below). The bride wanted a beautiful shot at the piano and we decided to embellish with a story.

Shot 1 – Lonely Bride, with little light.

Shot 2 – Enter the Groom, the light of her life.

Shot 3 – Both engulfed in light – on the brink of the kiss.

This was shot at night.  Outside the window we set up an Arri 750 open face. The choice of tungsten light created the desired sunset effect through the wooden blinds.

Receptionist Lifestyle Portrait
A lifestyle (aka environmental) portrait session for the company receptionist required lighting setup. Staging the background with existing furnishings we added a couple of lights to create drama and depth to the shot. We combined ambient light with flash focusing a beauty dish on the subject’s face.

Environment Staff Portrait

Environment Staff Portrait

Staff portraits have many settings now. “Lifestyle” aka “environment” portraits are popular because they are rapidly replacing stock photos for companies-real people in real business settings. These are the people who handle your phone calls.  Website visitors can put a face to a voice!

This was shot to enhance the background ambiance creating a bright, fresh image by slowing the shutter speed, requiring the subject to hold still and “hold that smile”. She was delightful to work with and the session went smoothly and quickly.

Staff Lifestyle Portrait in Rancho Cucamonga

Staff Lifestyle Portrait
What a fun shoot! The fall sun in Rancho Cucamonga was low and bright.  With our staff group’s back to the sun we used 3 flashes into a small umbrella and a 2 stop ND filter to knock down the sunlight brilliance.

You hear the terms “lifestyle” portrait and “environment” portrait when you’re looking for a staff photo with a setting in the workplace, but not using a backdrop. This pose brings energy and an inviting smile to reflect the company. Make your website photos original and fun!

Shooting from inside an airplane hangar to capture the Arizona desert behind our subjects  with the blazing sun we used a 2 stop ND filter to bring down the sunlight.  Without this you see only silhouettes of the subjects. The pristine hangar floor yielded a lovely reflection! Great family portraits, both the couple and family (below).
